Update on Free Trial Extension

VidAngel Customers,

We’re pleased that Amazon is working again (we’ve implemented the proper security features for your Amazon account).

We regret to inform you that now we have a technical glitch with Netflix streams. This is frustrating because your account connects to Netflix, but VidAngel is unable to fetch your stream for filtering at the moment. We have a fix in the works. Again, we need to ensure that Netflix’s systems know that you’re real people wanting to filter just as we need to on Amazon. This is something we learn to do better and better as more of you use the system.

The good news is that we’re continuing the free trial extension until the service is working for you. And you’re able to enjoy VidAngel Originals and filtering on your Amazon Prime, Amazon Rentals and HBO accounts in the meantime for free.

Best regards,

Neal Harmon, CEO

  1. I have the new version of the app and am now being prompted to enter my Amazon text author code. I enter the code from the text message, but am immediately given a message that login failed. I know you guys are working round the clock, just a few more bugs to work out

    1. Nevermind. I waited overnight and tried again and it worked. Must have been something that was still getting fixed. Thank you. Atleast I can use amazon until Netflix comes back, can’t wait to keep watching House of Cards though

        1. Thanks Neal, you guys are awesome. I’m always out there for you explaining why Vidangel have the law on their side and is completely above board. I’m so happy you’re all back

  2. I still can’t login to my Amazon account. I don’t even see the 2 form authentication popup. It just always fails.

  3. Netflix won’t stream. Amazon won’t authenticate. So lame because I literally had both working for me last night.

    1. Netflix is a known issue. I’ll have support reach out to you about Amazon. You might not have the most current app.

  4. I am glad to see that you guys are getting closer to a working solution. As a Software Engineer I can understand the frustrating reality of running thousands of tests and then handing it off to the end users to have them find many more corner case scenarios that did not present themselves in testing. Does this mean that Amazon Pin should be working and that I can go test that? I have been waiting for Amazon and Netflix Pin implementation before this service will be usable for me.

    1. Amazon Pin is not quiet ready, just the Amazon 2-factor authentication connection. We’re almost there on the pins.

  5. Thanks for all the work you’re doing on this. Two questions.
First, do you have enough money to make all this happen and to hire the folks you need to knock everything out? This is valuable enough to me (and my guess is it is the same for others) to be willing to pay something into a GoFundMe or similar outlet to make sure you have the resources necessary to get all of the kinks worked out of this. Or even just a donate button on your site.
Second, I know it’s not the most immediate issue, but are there any plans for subtitles? I know it’s probably a challenge with the filtering, but it would make it much more workable for my kids, who use hearing aids.

  6. What? It was just working! Now it’s not for me either. What a bummer! I hope you guys are able to get this corrected quickly. The combination of Netflix and Amazon via VidAngel is almost perfect. Adding Vudu or some other service would be icing on the cake.

If/when a change is implemented… will we need to logout and back in to Netflix on each device or just on the online account? Seems like I had to set up each device before.

Any ETA by chance on Netflix?

    Thanks Neal!

    -Phil

    1. P.S. Neal… a weekly update on the blog with added titles and on some social media site – Facebook, Reddit, etc. would be fantastic and I suspect would help generate more sign ups!

Your service is very, very much appreciated and has generated more revenue for Amazon from my family already as we are now able to buy/rent movies to watch as a family.

Best of luck to you and your team!

      -Phil

  7. I loved the old Vid Angel and the same is true if the new, but I do have a suggestion. It may be different in other platforms, but I use Roku and it would be REALLY helpful if on the Roku Vidangel channel there was a way to see on the thumbnails of each offering which service (HBO, Amazon, Netflix) the selection would stream from. This would make it even more helpful at times like now, when Netflix is down. Barring the thumbnails that concern Netflix Originals, there is currently no way to see which streaming service selections come from except by opening the thumbnail and I have found several times where the info will be missing there as well.

  8. Amazon account connected.

Explain why content I have in PRIME is not available for VidAngel streaming/filtering?

Can’t even find Indiana Jones a 1981 movie once connected.

    https://www.amazon.com/Indiana-Jones-Raiders-Lost-Ark/dp/B00GIWIPVA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498863381&sr=8-1&keywords=indiana+jones

Used to use the old VidAngel. Saw the new launch thought why would I use the new. My 5yo wants to watch Indiana Jones tonight. Wife says ‘No Way’. I think let’s try VidAngel. Amazon connector issue seemed fixed, 2FA auth done. Looking in VidAngel, searching videos I see lot’s of others, but not Indiana and other PRIME content I was expecting to see..What’s up?

    1. Indiana Jones is owned by Disney and so we have to wait until the hearing July 24th to seek permission to launch Disney titles on the new system. Sorry.

  9. Vidangel Team,

I have 4 kids in high school. I know its not the biggest problem in the world, in fact its more of a first-world problem, but its so frustrating to have my kids tell me all of their friends are watching movies and shows that they can’t watch because I don’t want the language in my house.

Before Netflix went down, they watched Stranger Things and a few other movies. I was able to watch half of Stranger Things with them before the crash. The family time of sitting around watching a good show was awesome!! Thank you!!

I am an early user of Vidangel and an investor. You guys have completely changed the game on family entertainment. I invested in your company because I wanted to help fund your fight against the studios. At the time I figured I would probably never see that money again but it was a worthy cause. Now I’m starting to think it may pay off for both of us.

One question. Does this new model nullify the argument against Vidangel? I thought the heart of the lawsuit was people are watching content and the studios aren’t being fairly compensated. I understand the Redbox argument, however my question is isn’t this what the studios were telling the judge?

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that.”

  10. Just wanted to take a second to express my extreme gratitude for the work you and your team are doing. I can only imagine the hours you are putting in, and not even getting paid for it yet. I will use your service for as long as it is out there and available. You are fighting a fight almost no one else is willing to take on. Because of you my family is getting the freedom to choose what we want to allow into our life without having to give up all of the good stuff at the same time. As far as I’m concerned, you can start billing me right now, whether all the kinks have been worked out or not. I know you are still working through issues, but the quality of the service you provide, the ease of use of the apps, smooth menus, all of it has always been top notch. You and your team have my deep respect and appreciation.

  11. Can someone please help me? I cannot get the Android app to work for me. I connect to Amazon streaming service ok using two step authentication but cannot watch any movies. Every time I try to watch I get a text with a new security code but don’t know where to enter it. Frustrating…can someone help me?

  12. I noticed that Disney and Marvel movies that I have bought on Amazon are not showing up, is this because you guys don’t have any of the movies from the studio that sued you guys? Hope you figure it out soon, love this service!!

    1. We have a motion with the court that will be heard on July 24th asking for permission to republish filtering for Disney and Marvel and Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox. Until then, we can only offer the other studios’ content.

  13. Hi, The Accountant movie won’t work. Set it on my watchlist and it shows on the Amazon Video app but not found on the VA app. I have all the updates on the apps.

    1. Pat, we only offer Amazon titles for which we have filtering tags. The Accountant is not yet part of our library, even though it’s part of the Amazon library. Before you rent or purchase a title on Amazon, be sure to search for it on VidAngel first.

    2. Hello. I would like to politely inform you that The Accountant is a Warner Bros. movie (from one of the studios that sued VidAngel). Until July 24, we don’t have access to them. Just thought I’d let u know 4 future info.

  14. Suggestion: have a “known working titles section” or something similar to allow users to immediately know what is working. This would avoid spending a few minutes ticking filtering boxes only to see the dreaded this movie is not available. Thanks for all you are doing! Keep up the good work!

  15. I have been able to connect to my Amazon and Netflix accounts on the iPhone app. But I cannot find the way to connect on the app on my fire stick. When I hit “Buy Movie”, it gives me an error message. I have deleted the app and downloaded it again, but still the same problem. Help!!

  16. My Netflix has been broken and not working since I signed up 3 weeks ago.
I hope the free trial extension works and that I won’t be charged until I can view Netflix on both the web browser, and on the Roku App. I have Roku 3 and cannot even see the Netflix titles in the genre categories.

    1. No worries, we are extending the free trial so that you get to truly enjoy VidAngel and Netflix together.

  17. I’m so glad that Vidangel is back!
I’ve been trying to watch the older Star Trek movies. They are labeled as being included with Amazon Prime but VidAngel says they need to be rented or purchased. Is there a problem with these titles?

      1. On my account, “Included with your Prime membership” are all the TV series, Star Trek 1-9 and Star Trek: Beyond. I tested the movies, they all play without a purchase prompt.

  18. Netflix is working great for me now. Thanks for all your hard work team VidAngel. Now I’m just really looking forward to the Amazon Fire TV app. 🙂

  19. Trying to watch 13 hours on Roku and it just spins on Generating Filtered Video forever. I deleted the roku channel and re added it but same problem. Any suggestions?

  20. Can’t log in, tells me my password is wrong even though I just set it today. Tried to reset it twice, and never got a reset email, even though it said one was sent.

    1. Are you referring to your VidAngel, Netflix or Amazon password?

Please reset your passwords for Netflix and Amazon on their websites.

    1. Unfortunately, those are now owned by Disney. We’re asking for permission from the court to offer Plaintiff titles. The hearing is July 24th. Hopefully the judge will allow us to offer those titles again.

  21. Please remember to release the new vidangel app for nvidia shield tv as well.

I have shield tv and amazon fire tv but cannot use the new service yet.

    Tx

    Philip

      1. Do you think the Amazon Fire TV app will be out this month. I’m really looking forward to being able to use VidAngel on my Fire devices.

      2. Excellent news. Thanks for all the time and effort you and your team is putting into this to have the app available on all platforms.

  22. I seem to notice that Netflix is working again. I tried Trolls today (we don’t own it on Amazon), and it worked just fine.

  23. My husband and I have paid for Netflix Amazon Prime and Vidangel in Canada. Threw Vidangel we can not watch Amazon Prime .It says it is linked and working , but says we have to buy or rent the movie . Can u please help 🙂

    1. If it’s not a Prime movie, you have to rent it or buy it on Amazon. Once you have done that you can go back to VidAngel, hit refresh and you’ll be able to watch it.

  24. Update on Apple TV? I know you can’t promise a exact date but ballpark. This year? 3rd Quarter? 4th Quarter etc. Try to decide if I need to buy a full Roku or wait for it to work on my ATV’s.

    1. We don’t give ETAs because there are pieces that are out of our control. I’d wait if I were you, but it’s up to you.

  25. I am subscribed to Netflix and see House of Cards and other Netflix shows in the Vidangel listings. When I search Vidangel for The Terminator, that movie page only shows Amazon as an option although the movie is also on Netflix. I don’t want to pay to rent from Amazon when it’s already available to me on Netflix. Can’t you use the same filters for both sources of the movie?

    1. The Terminator is not currently available to stream over Netflix US. We only support Netflix in the US at this time.

  26. Have not been able to figure out how to watch a movie using VidAngel since it has been back up. Never had trouble before, so I’m confused.

I use Roku remote to open VidAngel. I choose a movie and select “add to watchlist”. I now go to my watchlist and select same movie. That opens a screen that says “loading” and shows a spinning wheel. It never loads.

None of the buttons on the Roku remote work at this point, except the home button. If I hit home and then reopen VidAngel and select a different movie from my watchlist, the loading screen reappears for the first movie I had selected.

I have no idea what to do.

  27. I just signed up for a free trial to watch Marvel and Disney movies. Would have been nice to know this issue has not been settled before signing up.

  28. I had to cancel vidAngel because it doesn’t work on Roku because you can’t get the latest version. I may be back if they can work out the kinks.

    1. Kevin, we would love to have you come back. We recently launched a big update to the VidAngel Roku channel. Delete any current VidAngel channel you have and follow these steps to get the latest channel.

      1. Go to https://my.roku.com/add/vidangel, log in, and click “Yes, add channel”
      * **Note**: If you are asked for a password, enter: “vidangel”
      2. Open up your Roku and go to Settings >> System >> System Update and then click “Check now”

That should do the trick to get you watching again. Reach out to support@vidangel.com if you are experiencing any problem at all.

  29. I have an Amazon Fire along with Netflix. I keep trying to watch House of Cards and everytime I push play it says, “Oops, sorry something went wrong!” What do I do?

  30. Help. Can’t get any movie to play. Error 102. Don’t see any updates. Won’t work on my Apple TV or my iPhone.
