Kristen just built the movie room every parent dreams about. The cozy seating, the big screen, the lighting that makes even a Tuesday night feel like an event. It’s the kind of space that gets your kids begging for “just one more episode”.

But here’s the thing nobody puts on the mood board: the second that door closes, you’re not in there anymore. And what’s playing on that gorgeous new screen matters way more than the room itself.

That’s the part of the reveal that doesn’t show up in the photos. The part where a parent quietly wonders what’s actually queued up when the door shuts and they’re back in the kitchen doing literally anything else.

The Room Is the Hook. The Filters Are What Make It Work.

Kristen didn’t just build a beautiful space, she built one that’s actually ready for her family to use without her hovering over every remote.

With VidAngel, Kristen has filters set per profile for her kids, profanity, violence, nudity, and more, all adjusted to what she’s comfortable with them watching. And here’s the part that actually gives her peace of mind: her kids can’t change them. Once a filter is locked to a profile, it stays locked, on every device in the house, on every title they watch. No workaround, no “wait, how did this get turned off.”

That’s the difference between hoping for the best behind a closed door and actually knowing.

The Features Doing the Quiet Work

A few of the tools that make this possible:

Locked Filters. Set it once per profile and it applies everywhere. The living room TV, the tablet, and the new movie room. Kids can’t undo it without the account password. It’s not a suggestion, it’s a boundary that sticks.

Profile PINs. A simple 4-digit PIN keeps kids in their own profile and out of yours. No sneaking into “Mom’s account” to unlock something that wasn’t meant for them.

And for the parents who like to know more than “it’s probably fine” VidAngel also lets you track watch history by profile, so you can actually see what’s been watched and when, and review content guides before you hit play, so there are no surprises five minutes in.

Peace of Mind, Not a Restriction

The goal was never to make movie night feel like a checkpoint. It’s to make the room Kristen built actually work the way she pictured it. Full of good stories, without the stuff she’d rather her kids skip. Filters set. PIN locked. Movie room approved.

She still gets the room. Her kids still get the movie night. Nobody has to compromise on what’s on the screen to enjoy the space around it.

Family movie night shouldn’t require combat training.

The best book to screen adaptations of 2026 are already streaming — and they are not holding back. Bridgerton. Off Campus. The Housemaid. Every Year After. Margot’s Got Money Troubles. An embarrassment of riches for book lovers, and also, if we’re being honest, a little complicated.

The Adaptation Problem

Here’s a thing that happens when you’ve read the book: you know the story. You love the story. You’ve been waiting for this adaptation for months, maybe longer. And then you sit down to watch it and realize the screen version is… significantly more explicit than you expected.

The book let you fill in the blanks. Meanwhile, the show does not leave blanks.

For a lot of readers — especially those who’d love to watch with a spouse, family, or friends who have different comfort levels — this creates a whole separate decision: do you watch it and deal with the awkward moments, or do you skip it entirely?

Still, there’s a third option.

Watch Them All. Filter What You Want.

VidAngel lets you customize what you see and hear with thousands of movies and TV shows — including all the adaptations everyone’s talking about right now. Nudity, sexual content, profanity, violence — you set the filters, and the show plays exactly the way you want it to.

Same storylines. Same performances. The drama you’ve been waiting for — just without the parts you’d rather skip.

The Biggest Book to Screen Adaptations of 2026 — and How to Watch Them

Bridgerton

Probably the most-filtered show on VidAngel for a reason. The Regency drama is gorgeous, the romantic tension delivers, and the explicit scenes are easy to filter out without losing the plot. Most viewers toggle sexual content and nudity, and the story holds up completely.

Off Campus

The book community has been waiting for this one. The on-screen adaptation doesn’t shy away from the spicier moments in the source material, but the emotional core of the story is absolutely still there when you watch it filtered.

The Housemaid

Twisty, tense, and genuinely unsettling in the best way. Filters here are less about content volume and more about specific scenes. Even so, the thriller mechanics work with or without explicit content. The suspense hits harder when you’re not bracing for something else.

Every Year After

A story about grief, love, and second chances. VidAngel makes it easy to watch without the scenes that might not land the way the book did. As a result, content guides tell you what’s in each episode before you start.

Margot’s Got Money Troubles

Funny, chaotic, and unexpectedly emotional. Filters here mostly cover language and sexual content. Nevertheless, the humor and the heart of Margot’s story come through regardless of filter settings.

The Content Guide Feature Changes Everything

Before you even press play, VidAngel’s content guides show you exactly what’s in a title — what types of scenes, how often, how intense. As a result, you’re not going in blind, you’re not white-knuckling through episodes hoping for the best, and you’re not pausing to have an awkward conversation about whether everyone’s okay.

You just know. And then you watch.

What does TV-14 actually mean? Honestly, it’s pretty vague. According to Spectrum’s TV ratings guide, TV-14 is officially intended for children ages 14 and older, and it “possibly contains intensely suggestive dialogue, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations, or intense violence.” That’s the actual definition. And it raises a fair question: do you think a 14-year-old should be viewing “intense sexual situations” or hearing “strong coarse language?”

The rating is a guess, not a guarantee. Two shows can carry the same TV-14 label and have almost nothing in common content-wise. However, VidAngel helps you to know what’s actually in something before it plays and allows you to skip what you don’t want to see or hear.

Don’t just take our word; here’s what the data looks like across 14 popular TV-14 shows:

F-Words in TV-14 Shows

Same rating. Very different language.

TV Show

F-Words

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

0

The Summer I Turned Pretty

284

Stranger Things

26

Outer Banks

86

Cobra Kai

46

Wednesday

5

Friday Night Lights (2006)

9

My Life with the Walter Boys

2

Ginny & Georgia

5

XO, Kitty

0

Locke & Key

12

Never Have I Ever

12

Shadow and Bone

6

The Kissing Booth

3

The Summer I Turned Pretty averages 11 f-words per episode. Meanwhile, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has zero. Both are teen romances rated TV-14.

TV-14 Nudity Counts

Some of these will surprise you.

TV Show

Nudity Instances

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

0

Stranger Things

79*

Friday Night Lights (2006)

20

The Summer I Turned Pretty

10

XO, Kitty

0

Outer Banks

86

Cobra Kai

7

My Life with the Walter Boys

0

Wednesday

7

Ginny & Georgia

5

Locke & Key

0

Never Have I Ever

0

Shadow and Bone

4

The Kissing Booth

0

*79 nudity instances in Stranger Things — though to be fair, most are “creature buttocks.” Still, why is there any nudity?

TV-14 Sexual Content Counts

This is where the range gets hardest to ignore.

TV Show

Sexual Content Instances

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

6

Friday Night Lights (2006)

218

Stranger Things

41

The Summer I Turned Pretty

108

Outer Banks

26

Cobra Kai

46

Wednesday

15

My Life with the Walter Boys

40

Ginny & Georgia

161

Locke & Key

11

Never Have I Ever

70

Shadow and Bone

32

XO, Kitty

56

The Kissing Booth

32

Friday Night Lights carries 218 instances of sexual content, including sex with brief nudity on screen. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before however, has just 6. Yet both are rated TV-14.

The Rating Tells You the Category. VidAngel Tells You the Content.

A TV-14 label means the show was reviewed and placed in a bucket. However, it doesn’t tell you whether you’re looking at 0 f-words or 284. Sexual content showing up once or 218 times? The rating won’t tell you that either. And it definitely doesn’t give you any control over what your family actually sees.

That’s what VidAngel is for.

You pick what you don’t want to see or hear—language, nudity, sexual content, and violence—and VidAngel automatically filters out those moments as you watch. The episode keeps playing. You just decide what stays in it.

No pre-screening and no need for hovering of the remote anymore. Just confident, informed, genuinely enjoyable movie nights.

Ready to get started?

There is no shortage of places to find out who’s in a movie. You can pull up a cast list in seconds. You can read a critic’s take, scroll through audience reviews, check the box office numbers, find out which award it was nominated for, and watch four different trailers cut to make it look like the greatest film of the generation. The internet is very good at telling you who made something, who’s in it, and whether strangers on the internet thought it was worth their time.

Sure, cast lists are great. Knowing whether to actually watch something? Even better. That’s what VidAngel’s Content Guides are for. Think of it as your movie and TV guide. You can get a real breakdown of a show or movie—the summary, the tones and themes, and a look at the explicit content inside—so you can make an informed call before anyone’s committed to the couch.

MPA Ratings & Parents Guide: The Information Gap Nobody Talks About

When was the last time you felt truly, confidently informed about a show or movie before you watched it? Not “I read a review” informed. Not “it has a good rating” informed. Actually informed where you knew what you were walking into before you sat down.

That level of certainty requires a small research project. You check the MPA rating, which tells you just enough to be unhelpful. You hunt down a parents guide buried in a forum somewhere, written by a stranger whose standards may or may not match yours. You try to find timestamps of specific scenes so you know what’s coming and when. You cross-reference two or three different sites and hope the picture that emerges is accurate. It’s a lot of work for something that should be simple. And even after all of it, you’re still kind of guessing.

The rating system was never really designed to answer the questions that matter most to families — not because nobody cared, but because a single letter grade was never going to be able to. PG-13 covers an enormous range of human experience. TV-14 on one show looks nothing like TV-14 on another. The label tells you what category something fits into. It doesn’t tell you what’s actually inside.

So families adapted. They got resourceful. They learned to piece together information from a dozen different places and make their best call. That works. But it’s never been good enough.

VidAngel Content Guides: The Better Way to Know What You’re Getting Into

VidAngel has always been about giving you control over what you watch — letting you filter out the content you don’t want so you can enjoy the things you love on your own terms. And that’s still exactly what we do.

But filtering assumes you’ve already decided to watch something. What about the decision itself?

Introducing VidAngel Content Guides.

Content Guides gives you a clear picture of what’s actually in a show or movie before you press play, before you set your filters, before anyone’s committed to the couch. It’s not a review. It’s not a rating. It’s a real breakdown, built specifically for people who want to make an informed call about their entertainment.

Here’s what you get with every Content Guide:

What’s It About?

A quick, plain-language overview of what the show or movie is actually about. Not the three-paragraph synopsis that somehow tells you nothing. Just a clear summary so you know what you’re walking into — the premise, the general storyline, and what kind of show it actually is.

What’s In It?

Content Guides gives you a visual breakdown of the available filters for any title, so you can see at a glance what kind of explicit content is present and what VidAngel can filter for you. Language, violence, nudity, sexual content: it’s all laid out, so you can make real decisions instead of best guesses.

No more hunting through forums. No more decoding vague rating descriptions. No more hoping the timestamp you found online is accurate. Just a clear picture of what’s in it and exactly what you can do about it.

What’s In It?

Themes, Tones, and Storylines gives you a heads-up on the emotional and narrative territory of a show or movie. Does it explore sensitive topics that might matter to your family? Are there storylines you’d want to know about before they come up? A show can look like one thing from the outside and go somewhere entirely different once you’re in it. Themes, Tones, and Storylines makes sure you’re never caught off guard by something you could’ve seen coming.

Be Informed Before You Press Play

Here’s how easy it is to make an informed decision before choosing what to watch:

Check the Content Guide — What’s it about? What are the themes? What’s in it?

Make the call — Is this right for tonight? For your family? For you?

Set your filters — Now that you know what’s in it, dial in exactly what you want to skip.

Press play — Confidently. Without bracing for anything.

VidAngel has always believed you should be in control of your entertainment. Content Guides is the missing first step, the before to filtering’s during. Together, they give you a complete system for watching things on YOUR terms, from the very first decision all the way through to the end credits.

They tell you who’s in it. We tell you what’s in it.

And honestly? The second one matters more on movie night.

Nobody warns you anymore. So we built something that does.

There’s a pattern that’s become almost impossible to ignore.

You start a show based on a recommendation, a trailer, a vague cultural sense that this is the one everyone’s watching right now. The first episode is great. Two episodes in, you’re hooked. And then — somewhere around episode four — something happens that you were genuinely not prepared for.

Not in a “this show went somewhere interesting” way. In a “did that really need to be in here” way.

Stranger Things started as a nostalgic 80s thriller that felt almost family-friendly. Season by season, the content intensified well past where most people expected it to go. Outlander is built around a genuinely compelling love story — and also contains some of the heaviest content on streaming. Peaky Blinders is a masterclass in atmosphere and character — and treats graphic violence and sexual content as standard background.

None of these are bad shows. That’s almost what makes it more frustrating. The storytelling is legitimately good. The content just keeps escalating past the point where a lot of people wanted it to stop.

The Normalization Nobody Voted For

There’s a reasonable conversation to have about whether prestige television needs to be this explicit to tell the stories it’s trying to tell. Spoiler: it usually doesn’t.

The violence in Peaky Blinders doesn’t make Tommy Shelby more menacing. The nudity in Outlander doesn’t make Jamie and Claire’s relationship more believable. The bloody gore in Stranger Things doesn’t make the stakes feel higher — it just makes the show harder to watch with anyone outside a very specific audience.

What’s actually happened is that graphic content has become a kind of default setting. A signal that something is “serious” television. A way to announce that this isn’t network TV anymore. And somewhere along the way, viewers stopped being warned and started just finding out.

That’s a problem worth solving.

You Shouldn’t Have to Go In Blind

VidAngel’s new Content Guides are built around one simple idea: you should know what’s in a show before you press play.

Not a vague rating. Not a three-word content advisory. An actual breakdown — what the show is about, what content it contains, which filters apply, and what you can do about it. Visual, specific, and genuinely useful before you’ve committed to anything.

Shows with Content Guides already include Peaky Blinders, Outlander, Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Landman, Top Gun: Maverick, The Night Manager, One Piece, Hijack, and more — with new titles added regularly.

Then, once you know what you’re getting into, you can set your filters and watch however you actually want to watch. 100+ customizable options for profanity, sexual content, nudity, violence, blasphemy, and more. The show stays. The surprises don’t.

Eric Taylor Is Asking the Right Questions

Content creator Eric Taylor has been making the observation that a lot of people have quietly had but never said out loud: why is this the new normal, and does it actually have to be? His take on VidAngel’s Content Guides is worth watching — not as an ad, but as a genuine answer to a question that’s been building for a while.

Know Before You Watch. Filter What You Want. Actually Enjoy It.

The information exists. You just shouldn’t have to find out mid-episode.

We’ve all been there.

You start a movie or show thinking it’ll be a fun, relaxing night… and five minutes later you’re scrambling for the remote wondering, “Wait… what did we just start?”

At VidAngel, we believe movie night should feel a little less like a gamble.

So we built something to help decide what to watch, what to filter, and what to skip altogether.

Introducing: Content Guides

Our new Content Guides give you a clearer picture of what’s actually in a movie or show before you press play.

Because we should be able to know what we’re walking into (even if you’re using our filters to skip the explicit parts).

What’s in it? A visual breakdown of available filters so you can quickly see what can be filtered

What’s it about? A quick overview of what the show or movie is about (no three-page summaries required)

Themes, Tones, and Storylines – Heads-up on themes or sensitive topics that might matter to you or your family

Basically, it’s everything you need to make a more informed choice about what to watch in your own home.

So you can confidently enjoy movie night like someone who did their homework.

Because you did.

Explore Content Guides

We’ve already created guides for some popular titles, including:

Bridgerton

Outlander

Reacher

And we’re adding more all the time.

Whether you’re planning a family movie night, trying to avoid awkward scenes, or just want to know what you’re getting into before committing to eight seasons of a show, Content Guides are here to help you make an informed decision for you and your family.

Tell Us What You Think

We’d genuinely love your thoughts, opinions, and feedback on the guides.
Tell us what you like, what you don’t, or what we should build next. We’re listening. (And occasionally taking notes.)

There’s a version of parenting that’s about saying no. Rules for rules’ sake. Restrictions without a reason. This isn’t that. This is about something quieter — and it starts with being able to filter movies and TV shows for your kids without turning family movie night into a second job.

You’re the Gatekeeper.

Somewhere along the way, the responsibility of curating your home’s media diet started to feel overwhelming. Streaming libraries are enormous. Content warnings are vague. And honestly, even the shows marketed for families aren’t always what you’d choose if you’d had a preview.

But you don’t have to pre-screen every show before your kids hit play. VidAngel does that work for you in real time, filtering profanity, sexual content, nudity, violence, and more thousands of movies and TV shows while the content plays. You set it once. It runs in the background.

Like a pre-programmed remote that already knows your preferences. Except it works across basically everything.

What Filtering Actually Looks Like

It’s not a watered-down version of entertainment. It’s not a kids’ mode with a ceiling of animated movies. It’s the actual shows and films, the ones you or your family want to watch together, with the parts that don’t fit your home filtered out.

100+ customizable filters. You choose which ones apply. Nudity, language, blasphemy, violence. Watch a movie with the language filtered but the action intact. Watch a drama with the sexual content adjusted but the storyline preserved.

It’s not about avoiding entertainment.

The Peace of Knowing

There’s something that happens when you stop white-knuckling it through family movie night. When you’re not half-watching the screen and half-watching your kid’s face to see if something just slipped through.

That’s a different kind of watching. Relaxed. Present. Actually enjoying it.

Protecting your kids’ childhoods isn’t supposed to be stressful. The intention is good. The execution doesn’t have to be hard.

For the Parents Who Get It

If you grew up in a home where your parents were intentional about media — you know. You understand why. And if you’re now the one making those calls for your own kids, you’re not being restrictive. You’re being deliberate.
