There are so many shows I want to watch with my daughter. Just not all of them.

There’s a whole category of movies and shows that live in a very specific parenting gray zone.

Not too mature. Not too young. Right in that sweet spot where you think — she would actually love this. The story is good, the characters are the kind she’d connect with, it’s something you could actually enjoy together instead of just tolerating it from the couch.

And then there’s that one scene. Or that running thread of language. Or the subplot that’s a little more than you were planning to explain tonight.

So the movie goes back on the shelf. Or you watch it alone. Or you spend the whole time with your thumb hovering over the remote, waiting.

None of that is the fun mother-daughter movie night you had in mind.

Every Family Has a Different Line

Here’s what makes this tricky: there’s no universal answer to what’s “appropriate.”

Some families are fine with language but want to skip sexual content. Some are the opposite. Some are watching with a twelve-year-old who can handle more than a seven-year-old. Some parents just want to get through Top Gun: Maverick without an awkward pause and a longer conversation than they were planning to have on a Tuesday night.

The point isn’t that one standard is right. The point is that you get to set the standard for your own family — and for a long time, the tools to actually do that weren’t great.

VidAngel changes that.

Customize It First. Then Press Play.

VidAngel works with your existing streaming services — Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Peacock, and more — to let you filter what you watch before it ever reaches your screen. Over 100 customizable filters: profanity, nudity, sexual content, violence, blasphemy, and more. You choose what stays and what gets skipped, based on what works for your family right now.

Setup takes minutes. The movie still plays normally. You’re just not white-knuckling the remote the entire time.

The Summer I Turned Pretty stays the coming-of-age story your daughter will obsess over. Mamma Mia stays the chaotic, joyful singalong it’s supposed to be. You get the experience you were hoping for when you thought she would love this — without the mental footnotes about what you might have to address later.

Over a million families are already using it. 25,000+ titles covered. Free trial available so you can find out what family movie night feels like when you actually get to call the shots.

Sharing the Good Stuff, Your Way

Content creator Mary (@ijustwannachat) put it in a way that hits: there are things she genuinely wants to share with her daughter — pop culture moments, stories she loves, movies that meant something to her — and VidAngel is how she does that without the parts she’d rather skip.

It’s not about keeping her daughter in a bubble. It’s about being intentional. Watching together, on their terms.

You Decide What Stays In.

That’s the whole thing. You’re not at the mercy of whatever a streaming platform decided to include. You watch the movie you wanted to watch — the one you knew your daughter would love — and you decide what version of it you’re watching together.

Yellowstone, Landman, 1923 — great TV. VidAngel is how we actually watch it.

If you’ve spent any time in the Taylor Sheridan universe, you know the appeal. The scope is enormous. The characters are layered. The dialogue is sharp and specific in a way that most prestige TV never manages. There’s a reason people binge Yellowstone and immediately go back for 1923 and Landman and everything else he’s ever touched.

It’s genuinely great television.

It also comes with a significant amount of content that has nothing to do with why it’s great.

Great Storytelling Doesn’t Require All of That

Here’s the thing about Taylor Sheridan shows specifically: the storytelling engine is the family dynamics, the land, the loyalty, the slow-burning tension between people who love each other and are constantly at odds. That’s the good stuff. That’s what keeps you up until midnight finishing one more episode.

The explicit content scattered throughout? It’s not doing that work. The story would still be exactly as compelling without it. Most viewers know this instinctively — it’s why so many people watch these shows with their thumb on the remote, bracing for scenes that feel like interruptions to the show they’re actually there for.

You shouldn’t have to watch your favorite shows that way.

The Wind-Down Ritual That Actually Winds You Down

There’s something specific about late-night TV with your person. Kids are asleep. The day is finally done. You’ve got snacks and nowhere to be and one episode left before you should probably sleep.

That ritual is worth protecting. It’s connection time dressed up as entertainment. And the last thing it needs is content that pulls you out of it — that turns a relaxing night into something you’re managing instead of enjoying.

VidAngel is how you keep the ritual intact.

Watch the Sheridan Universe. Your Way.

VidAngel works alongside your existing streaming platforms — Paramount+, Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Peacock, and more — to let you filter what you watch before it plays. 100+ customizable filters: profanity, sexual content, nudity, violence, and more. You set them once, they run automatically, and Landman stays Landman — just without the scenes that make you reach for the remote.

Yellowstone keeps all five seasons of family drama and Montana landscape. 1923 keeps its weight and scope. Dutton Ranch will be ready to watch from day one, exactly the way you want to watch it.

Over a million people are already using VidAngel. It covers 25,000+ titles. Free trial available — so your next watch party is already taken care of.

Sarah Gets It

Content creator Sarah (@sarahflipsit) and her husband are deep in the Taylor Sheridan universe — and VidAngel is how they watch it. Not because the shows aren’t worth watching. Because they’re too worth watching to spend half the time managing what’s on screen instead of just watching it.

One More Episode. Without the Interruptions.

The best part of the night shouldn’t come with a catch.

No shame. No judgment. Just a tool that actually helps.

Kids screen time at home goes up when school’s out. That’s just reality — not a parenting failure. The question isn’t whether they’re going to watch something. The question is whether you actually feel okay about what’s playing while you’re making lunch, answering emails, or doing anything else that requires your attention for more than four minutes.

For a lot of parents, the honest answer is: not always.

The Problem With “Mostly Fine”

Most of what kids want to watch is mostly fine. But “mostly fine” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

It means you’ve seen enough of the show to feel reasonably okay about it. It means you haven’t heard anything alarming from other parents. It means the rating seems about right for the age.

What it doesn’t mean is that you actually know what’s in every episode. Or that the language in episode seven isn’t a surprise. Or that the show your nine-year-old is watching in the other room is exactly the version you’d choose if you were sitting right there.

There’s a gap between “probably fine” and “I know what’s playing.” VidAngel closes that gap.

Set It Before You Press Play

VidAngel works with your existing streaming services — Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Peacock, and more — to let you filter what plays before your kids ever see it. Profanity, sexual content, nudity, violence — 100+ customizable filters you set once and they run automatically.

You’re not hovering. You’re not doing a mental risk assessment every time they pick something new. You set the filters based on your kids, your house, your standards — and then you go make lunch without the background anxiety.

What It Looks Like at Oakley’s House

Content creator Oakley Peterson (@nothingdownaboutit) keeps it real about what screen time actually looks like when kids are home — which is to say, more than usual, and that’s okay. VidAngel is how she makes peace with it. Real filters, real shows, real family.

More Screen Time. Less Second-Guessing.

You don’t have to earn a break. You just have to press play on something you actually feel good about.

There is no shortage of places to find out who’s in a movie. You can pull up a cast list in seconds. You can read a critic’s take, scroll through audience reviews, check the box office numbers, find out which award it was nominated for, and watch four different trailers cut to make it look like the greatest film of the generation. The internet is very good at telling you who made something, who’s in it, and whether strangers on the internet thought it was worth their time.

Sure, cast lists are great. Knowing whether to actually watch something? Even better. That’s what VidAngel’s Content Guides are for. Think of it as your movie and TV guide. You can get a real breakdown of a show or movie—the summary, the tones and themes, and a look at the explicit content inside—so you can make an informed call before anyone’s committed to the couch.

MPA Ratings & Parents Guide: The Information Gap Nobody Talks About

When was the last time you felt truly, confidently informed about a show or movie before you watched it? Not “I read a review” informed. Not “it has a good rating” informed. Actually informed where you knew what you were walking into before you sat down.

That level of certainty requires a small research project. You check the MPA rating, which tells you just enough to be unhelpful. You hunt down a parents guide buried in a forum somewhere, written by a stranger whose standards may or may not match yours. You try to find timestamps of specific scenes so you know what’s coming and when. You cross-reference two or three different sites and hope the picture that emerges is accurate. It’s a lot of work for something that should be simple. And even after all of it, you’re still kind of guessing.

The rating system was never really designed to answer the questions that matter most to families — not because nobody cared, but because a single letter grade was never going to be able to. PG-13 covers an enormous range of human experience. TV-14 on one show looks nothing like TV-14 on another. The label tells you what category something fits into. It doesn’t tell you what’s actually inside.

So families adapted. They got resourceful. They learned to piece together information from a dozen different places and make their best call. That works. But it’s never been good enough.

VidAngel Content Guides: The Better Way to Know What You’re Getting Into

VidAngel has always been about giving you control over what you watch — letting you filter out the content you don’t want so you can enjoy the things you love on your own terms. And that’s still exactly what we do.

But filtering assumes you’ve already decided to watch something. What about the decision itself?

Introducing VidAngel Content Guides.

Content Guides gives you a clear picture of what’s actually in a show or movie before you press play, before you set your filters, before anyone’s committed to the couch. It’s not a review. It’s not a rating. It’s a real breakdown, built specifically for people who want to make an informed call about their entertainment.

Here’s what you get with every Content Guide:

What’s It About?

A quick, plain-language overview of what the show or movie is actually about. Not the three-paragraph synopsis that somehow tells you nothing. Just a clear summary so you know what you’re walking into — the premise, the general storyline, and what kind of show it actually is.

What’s In It?

Content Guides gives you a visual breakdown of the available filters for any title, so you can see at a glance what kind of explicit content is present and what VidAngel can filter for you. Language, violence, nudity, sexual content: it’s all laid out, so you can make real decisions instead of best guesses.

No more hunting through forums. No more decoding vague rating descriptions. No more hoping the timestamp you found online is accurate. Just a clear picture of what’s in it and exactly what you can do about it.

What’s In It?

Themes, Tones, and Storylines gives you a heads-up on the emotional and narrative territory of a show or movie. Does it explore sensitive topics that might matter to your family? Are there storylines you’d want to know about before they come up? A show can look like one thing from the outside and go somewhere entirely different once you’re in it. Themes, Tones, and Storylines makes sure you’re never caught off guard by something you could’ve seen coming.

Be Informed Before You Press Play

Here’s how easy it is to make an informed decision before choosing what to watch:

Check the Content Guide — What’s it about? What are the themes? What’s in it?

Make the call — Is this right for tonight? For your family? For you?

Set your filters — Now that you know what’s in it, dial in exactly what you want to skip.

Press play — Confidently. Without bracing for anything.

VidAngel has always believed you should be in control of your entertainment. Content Guides is the missing first step, the before to filtering’s during. Together, they give you a complete system for watching things on YOUR terms, from the very first decision all the way through to the end credits.

They tell you who’s in it. We tell you what’s in it.

And honestly? The second one matters more on movie night.

Already a VidAngel subscriber? Content Guides is available now — just search any title to see the full breakdown before you watch.

How can you watch a clean version of a movie or TV show? You know the feeling. You’re watching a great movie. The story is engaging. The acting is incredible. Then a scene appears that you didn’t ask for and didn’t want.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

Watching a clean version of a movie or show is easier than you think. You don’t need to research every title before you press play. You don’t need to hover over the fast-forward button. And you definitely don’t need to give up on great entertainment just because it comes with content you’d rather skip.

What “Clean Version” Actually Means

A clean version isn’t a dumbed-down version. It’s not a censored version either. It’s simply your version.

Maybe you want to watch a gritty crime drama without the f-bombs. Maybe you love a particular romance series but skip the explicit scenes. Or maybe you’re watching with kids and want to cut the violence without losing the story.

A clean version means you decide what stays and what goes. The plot remains intact. The characters remain intact. You just remove the parts that don’t work for you.

Why Clean Versions Are Hard to Find

Streaming platforms don’t offer filtering options. Netflix, Prime Video, and others give you the content as is. What you see is what you get.

You could research every title before watching. But those guides are written for everyone. Their definition of “mild” might be very different from yours.

You could fast-forward through uncomfortable scenes. But that means spoiling what’s coming. It means awkward pauses in the middle of a movie night. And it means you have to be paying close attention every single second.

None of these solutions actually solve the problem. They just manage it badly.

A Better Way to Watch

With VidAngel filtering, you can get a clean version of movies or shows from your existing streaming services. It works with Netflix, Prime Video, Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV, and more.

Here’s how it works. You connect VidAngel to your streaming accounts. You set your filter preferences once (and you can always adjust later, if you want). Then VidAngel automatically skips or mutes whatever you’ve chosen to filter.

You’re not editing the content. You’re simply watching the same movie or show with your preferences applied automatically in real time. Think of it like a preprogrammed remote, muting the words you don’t want to hear and skipping the scenes you don’t want to see.

What You Can Filter

VidAngel gives you granular control over five main content categories.

Profanity is one of the most commonly filtered categories. You can filter all foul language broadly or get specific. Want to mute f-words and crude jokes but keep mild profanity? You can do that. Want to filter blasphemy specifically? That’s an option too. Want to only mute 3 of the 24 s-words? Well, sure, you can do that, too.

Intimacy and Nudity are other major categories. You can filter explicit scenes, nudity, or sexual content at whatever level feels right for you and whoever is in the room.

Violence and gore are filterable too. Some people love action movies but skip the most graphic moments. VidAngel lets you do exactly that without losing the tension or excitement of the story.

Other content includes things like drug use, drinking, and smoking. These are filterable as well, giving you a genuinely comprehensive set of options.

Filtering Works on the Shows You Already Love

This isn’t a separate streaming library of pre-cleaned titles. VidAngel works on the content you’re already watching on services you already pay for.

That means your favorite drama on Netflix. The thriller you’ve been meaning to watch on Prime Video. The new series everyone is talking about on Peacock. Filtered to your preferences.

You don’t have to choose between great content and comfortable viewing. You can have both.

Watching With Family Just Got Easier

One of the biggest benefits of filtered viewing is family movie night. Pre-screening a movie takes time. Fast-forwarding is clumsy and ruins surprises. And some content is simply too difficult to explain to younger kids in the moment.

With VidAngel, you set your filters once. From that point forward, every title you watch through VidAngel applies those preferences automatically. No prep work. No hovering over the remote. Just the story.

You can also adjust your filters title by title. Watching something with the whole family on Friday? Set stricter filters. Watching something solo on Saturday night? Adjust accordingly. The control is always yours.

The Content You Love, the Way You Want It

Great entertainment shouldn’t come with an asterisk. You shouldn’t have to tolerate content you don’t want just to access a story you love.

Watching a clean version of any movie or show isn’t about avoiding great entertainment. It’s about accessing it on your own terms. The plot twists, the performances, the moments that make a great story great—those all stay exactly where they belong.

The parts you never wanted? Those are gone.

That’s what VidAngel does.

What VidAngel Users Are Saying

“I have VidAngel and I love it! I finally get to watch Yellowstone without the filthy talk. If you don’t mind the language, then watch it unfiltered. We all have the right to choose what we want. Some of us choose the clean version. I won’t judge you for your choices so please don’t judge me for mine.”
– Gail

“We just downloaded [VidAngel] and watched [Top Gun:] Maverick with our kids – wonderful to have a clean version of a film! Impressed and we will continue subscribing!!”
– Kelly

“We are really enjoying this fascinating storyline [The Night Agent] and great actors. Thank you for proving clean entertainment is very entertaining!!”
– Priscilla

“Oh yay! We love Spirited so much but there’s some stuff that I’d love to clean up in it. Stuff not even necessary to the story that often disrupts the sincere good messages of the movie. Thanks VidAngel.”
– Jenna

“Every Friday after school I would take the kids to rent a movie. … I wanted them to experience the movies I watched as a kid. But as a kid myself we didn’t have much money growing up so back then we didn’t see the movies until they were shown on TV and consequently cleaned up. When showing them to my kids I was shocked at the foul language in ‘kids’ movies. Thus the search began for filtering. VidAngel truly was an answered prayer.”
– Bruce
