Friends have been asking a load of questions about how VidAngel sell back works. Everyone who gets it LOVES it because you can save $200 per year compared to the old VidAngel on streaming filtered movies. But it takes a little education to understand.
For us to legally offer filtered movies, you must own the movie while filtering it. To make this as affordable and user-friendly as possible, we have created an instant “Sell-Back” option to buy the movie back from you and put the credit into your VidAngel account. No hassle, no fuss, just enjoy your movie, sell it back, and only pay $2.00 for your HD movie.
We made this video that will help you learn how it works in just a minute and a half:
Quick Overview: (using a $20 movie)
- BUY THE MOVIE – Pay the retail price of $20. (initial credit card payment)
- WATCH FOR $2.00 – $2.00 (per day for HD movies) is deducted from the $20 credit. $1.00 per day for SD or Television shows.
- SELL THE MOVIE – When finished, “Sell it Back” for $18.00 of instant credit to your VidAngel account for your next purchase.
When you’re ready for the next movie, the credit already in your VidAngel account will automatically be applied to your purchase. Continue to buy and sell movies with account credit and pay only $2.00 per HD movie. If you always buy and sellback within 24 hours, then all future credit card transactions will be the $2.00 watch price.
Other Frequently Asked Questions:
What if I want to keep my movie?
Here’s how it works for HD:
Sell back the movie within 24 hours it’s $2, up to 48 hours is $4
up to 72 hours is $6, etc
Until you reach the purchase price. At which point you own the movie. Once you own it, it will always be in your VidAngel vault to enjoy whenever you would like. If you decide you have kept your purchased movie long enough and don’t want to watch it anymore – you also have the option to sell it back in exchange for a Free Movie Night.
Can I ever use all my credit?
Absolutely. You can keep buying and selling movies or Television episodes. Also, if you decide to keep a movie, it will use up your credit. However, if you always sell back for credit, then you will always have more credit to use next time.
Why can’t I just rent movies?
It is not legal for VidAngel to rent movies to you.
Does my Credit ever expire?
NO – Your credit never expires. You can take as long as you like to spend it, or binge watch your favorite TV show and use it all in one weekend.
Why don’t you automatically refund my credit card?
Great Question! We have worked hard to find the best and most cost-effective option for our customers to follow the legal law of owning their movie while filtering it. Most of our customers watch a new movie every weekend. The refund process from our credit card company takes 7-10 days. Meaning, you could be spending even more than ever because you would have your original purchase pending a refund, and then a new charge for the next movie. We don’t want you double charged and waiting for refunds. The refund method was simply not a practical option for 99% of our customers. Not to mention if we refunded every single transaction we ever received, our credit card company would eventually drop our account – and if that happened you couldn’t enjoy your fantastic filtered movies.
Can I ever turn my credits back into cash?
Of course! If you decide you have finished using VidAngel you can cash-out your remaining credits. It takes 7-10 business days to receive the funds back to your card, so you don’t want to choose this unless you know you’re done watching movies with VidAngel. (Any taxes, gifted credit, or promotional credit are not eligible for cash-out)
If you still have questions, or want to the Long Version that includes “How To” instructions, here you go:
Super Thorough step by step guide with instructions:
- Find the movie you would like to watch and select it.
- Click “Buy Now” and choose to store the DVD or Blu-ray in your VidAngel Vault and continue.
- Select your HD or SD option and enter your credit card information.
- Voila! You can now enjoy your movie!
- Once you’re finished, you can quickly sell your movie back, and we will instantly apply your movie credit to your VidAngel account.
- For your convenience, there are four different ways to do this:
- The easiest option, is to check the Auto-Sellback box when you purchase your movie. It will sell it back as soon as your movie ends, and you don’t even need to lift a finger.
- At any time during the movie you have a sell back icon in the top left corner of your movie screen.
- Once your movie ends – A sell-back box pops up on your screen reminding you to sell back.
- At any time, you can select the title in your “My Movies” dashboard to sell it back or confirm a sell-back if you are unsure: http://www.vidangel.com/myvids/
- Lastly, should you forget to sell back a movie, you will receive sell-back reminder emails from us that contain a link to sell back your purchase.
- Once you have sold your movie back, you will see your VidAngel credit in your account.
- This credit will automatically apply to your next purchase, so no need to worry about forgetting to use it.
- You can view all your transactions in My Purchases: http://www.vidangel.com/myvids/
We know this explanation might be a bit long winded, but we want to be sure to answer every single question you have, so you are 100% comfortable using our service.
Thank you for using VidAngel!
I just recently discovered VidAngel and just tonight streamed my first movie. I have to say I was more than pleased. It was so nice to sit down with my family and watch a movie and not cringe every time I heard a cuss word or be embarrassed of a scene. I want to thank the “four brothers” for creating this viewing option for Christian families. I will do everything in my power to promote VidAngel to everyone I can. If there is something I can do beyond spreading the word about VidAngel, please contact me via email. I want to do what I can to support VidAngel in any way possible.Thank you again……
Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoy it! It means so much to us!

So, I’m just curious, if I ever DO want to cash in my credit for cash, how would I go about doing so? Would I just send an email to support@vidangel.com? (I don’t want to turn in it for cash though, just for the record. I would just like to know for future reference).
Yes. That's how you do it until we get a self-serve system built.

I have a Roku stick that I bought recently so that I could stream movies from VidAngel. I am unable to find your channel on my Roku however so I don’t know what to do. I am new to Roku as well as VidAngel so I may just need a short lesson on how to find and add your channel to my Roku. Thanks
Thanks for using VidAngel. Here are the instructions for adding the Roku channel to your Roku. Please follow them exactly.

I was able to get the roku app up and running and made my first purchase last night. It streamed flawlessly. However, it seemed that I didn’t have access to all 700+ movies in the library. I only saw what seemed like 100-200 options. Might I be doing something wrong?
Jason – we recently changed our service slightly, so that rather than streaming from YouTube, we are hosting all our own HD content. This is how were were able to bring you your own Roku channel. Due to the switch, a number of our movies have not yet been converted from the old version to the new HD streaming. We are working like crazy to add new movies every week, but it will take us a little bit of time to get them all converted.

On your movie descriptions it would be nice to have a date that the movie was released. Also a Queue to put movies in to watch later would be nice so it would be easier to watch them later.

Dear NR – Thanks for the great suggestions. We do have a "Watch Later" queue, and we are in the process of redesigning our website so that the movies will have the date of the movie, a great description, the ability to watch the trailer, the ratings information, as well as a host of other features.

Click on a Movie Title. When the screen comes up to set your filters, there is also a Watch Later? button in the top box. It's just at the end of the first line of text.

Is there a way to download the episodes of shows I purchase? That way I don’t have to always have an internet connection?

Jarom – I just responded to your email that had this same question – but here's the answer again, just in case: At this time, we do not have a way to allow you to legally download the content. However if you purchase the movie with us, we can always send you the physical disc instead of keeping it in our VidAngel Vault for you.

Jarom – we do not alter movies in any way. The disc would be the original theatrical release.

Vidangel, is this possible?
Not at this time unfortunately. We’d like to make offline viewing a feature in the future.
Hi, I’m new to your site. We own an ordinary tv (not Apple), we don’t have tivo, roku or chromecast. How would we watch your movies? We would want to stream to our tv just like we do when watching movies rented/purchased via Amazon or using Netflix. Is this possible or would we need something extra to be able to use your service.
Thank you
Denisi Walker

question; I bought my first movie, watched it and sold it back and have 19 credits in my account. When I go to buy my next movie, I understand it will use my 19 credits and $1.00 more for a total of $20.00, leaving me with $19.00 or 19 credits each time I watch a SD movie. The only way to ever get back the credits is to either use them to buy a movie or cancel at somepoint down the road? Is that about right??

Tim
You are free to cash out your credits at any time. It does take 7-10 business days for the refund to show up on your card, and most people want to watch a new movie in that time. So you really wouldn't want to cash out your credits until you are done using VidAngel.

Tim – We always use your credit. You should never have more than $19 at a time unless you buy multiple movies at once.

Trying to figure out how to put “credit” on my account. Can you help?
You just put in your billing information and your card is charged when you purchase a movie. You don't add credit, once you sell back your movie the remaining amount from the purchase stays on your VidAngel account as credit for future purchases.
—
source:va_support_update_bot
I just signed up and am excited to begin watching VidAngel!
If i choose multiple movies right now to “watch later”, when will i be charged for each movie? After choosing watch later or when the movies are actually watched?
Peggy
Great question! You won't be charged for a movie until you actually purchase the movie to watch. You are not charged when putting movies in your "watch later" list.

Is there a way to watch the movie multiple times in 24 hours and still check the box to sell back automatically? When I’m done watching the movie, it automatically sells it back, not leaving me a chance to go back and watch scenes or watch it again. If the automatic sellback could wait until my 24 hours are up, that would be helpful. Is there a way to do that?

Mindy – at this time, there is not a way to have both auto-sellback and keep the movie for the full 24-hours. Most of our customers requested that it sold back right away, so that they could use the credits to purchase their next movie immediately.

Thanks for offering this great service! I have a question: what if I already own a digital or DVD copy of a movie? Is it possible to use the filter on one of these?
We are working on a solution for this Vinnie. Thanks for dropping by.
Hy. I am new to VidAngel. Just signed in and bought a movie by pressing buy. But i was never asked to give in my payment methode, but i was able to watch the movie and sell it back and i got credit. Is this suposed to happen? Will i get charged later? Ty for an answer. Sam
You were probably part of our Star Wars promotion that allowed you to watch your first movie free. Enjoy VidAngel. We will never charge you without you choosing to give us your payment information and explicitly making another purchase.
When you decide to keep a movie, is there an option to download the movie or is it stream only?
Stream only today. We’re planning to offer an option for offline viewing in the future.
So what is the exact process of getting refunded my exsisting credit back to my credit card?

If you decide you have finished using VidAngel you can cash-out your remaining credits. It takes 7-10 business days to receive the funds back to your card, so you don't want to choose this unless you know you're done watching movies with VidAngel for awhile. (Any taxes, gifted credit, or promotional credit are not eligible for cash-out) Just email us and we can do this for you.

If I purchase a movie, watch it and decide I want to keep it, is there an option for you to send me the actual disc? (bluray or DVD)
Yes! 🙂 You can email support@vidangel.com and request it be sent for the cost of shipping and handling
Are all of the movies $20 to “purchase” upfront, or do the purchase amounts vary?
They all cost $20 and you can sell them back within 24 hours for $19 or $18, depending on whether it was in SD or HD
I just want to say something tonight I feel really down. I do love VidAngel, and I have been using it for weeks now, and have bought a lot. I have actually shared with MANY of my friends, and through Facebook. My sister told me to try out VidAngel first because she said she seen reviews saying they do not catch everything.
I have used clearplay which is awesome but their price is crazy. Nothing can compare to the affordable price of VidAngel. I also love that VidAngel has a filter for immodesty, that’s my favorite. I have to say many movies I have been so happy to watch, and so impressed with the filters. I have let go of some of the movies slipping curse words, because I know it’s a mistake, and VidAngel says they will review the movie immediately. VidAngel’s customer service is amazing too. I just have to say something that I do not enjoy, they give you a warning on some movies, like maybe there is immodesty but they feel it’s an important part of the movie so they do not cut it out, and put a warning. I have skipped these movies but a lot times upset because I feel like this website is about filtering a movie the way you want it, and a lot times I have watched something they think it’s an important scene but to me it was not that important at all, I rather my husband not see a girl in a bra, or holding her hands with her boobs even if she is talking I could careless
(*warning* Walking Dead season 3 ep.7). I feel they should be true to the filter immodesty/nudity, and then you decide for yourself if you want to keep that filter on. I was told they do this with their newer filters but it stinks because I can’t go back and watch movies/tv shows, almost all the tv shows you can not do that, only their new stuff. I was told they have an update list, but I really up they are updating the movies/tv shows there are many I would love to see. It just stinks having to weed through movies/tv shows, and then a lot of the movies we pick there’s immodesty that the filter says they cut out but then my husband and I see tops showing ample of cleavage, etc. Each time VidAngel has apologized and said they will review it immediately, and I believe them. I do want to hang on and keep having the chance to filter movies at an affordable price, and enjoy the movies. I have enjoyed a few, and I love having not to worry about anything but then you get movies that the filter didn’t cut out very well. I have told VidAngel each time, and I hate writing them so much but I do think it’s important they know. I just hate taking the hits, for some people maybe not a big deal, but to a lot of Christians this is a big deal. I have many of my friends who ask me now is this real, do they really cut out immodesty/sex/nudity. I have went back and told my friends/family to save them from the hits. It hurts seeing immodesty girls in bras, boobs, or naked in sheets. To some people they think no big deal, but for our Christian friends and family we don’t watch garbage like that so for us we are looking for filters. My family we definitely don’t watch that stuff so for us it’s a big hit, and we are opening our eyes to that. We try to protect our family from hits, because media, movies, tv shows does effect you, your family, and your home. I have family members who have been addicted to porn, a lot of Christian men are, and you have to avoid the temptation, the media is the biggest temptation. So I do take these filters seriously, and when I tell family members about this. I understand behind VidAngel are human people, and mistakes happen but there’s just been many movies. I know VidAngel is trying hard, and making the filters the best they can. It just has caused a lot of friction in my home, and arguments. I am just warning Christians out there I want to keep using VidAngel, and hang through their bumps in the road but at the same time I do not want to keep getting hit in the stomach when I see scenes that hurt my family or me. I don’t want to be the one testing the movie filter out, I want to know it’s safe for my family. I am not saying I am giving up but I am not sure how many more hits I can take, I guess for now we will try easier movies, but it just stinks because we used this site thinking the filters would work always.
Just heard about you service today in a work meeting of all places. Excited to support your mission making movies family friendly. Question, we currently have a WiiU to stream through. Any chance you will include that platform in near future? Or do I need to go buy a Roku soon? Thanks.
CBC
The Wii is not currently in our development cycle for this year. I would get a Roku.
Hi. I’m thinking of signing up. Just want to be clear in pricing.
1st purchase my credit card is billed 20$.
Watch a movie
Sell it back for 19$
End up only paying 1$ for that movie
Next movie I buy, a new 1$ charge will appear on my CC
The original 19$ is like a “security deposit” that one keeps using to “buy” the movies.
I would get that back only when I “move out” i.e stop using your service.
Right?
It’s like investing 19$ To be able to rent filtered movies for 1$ each time…
Thanks.
Pretty close to true. But the money in your account is yours. You can cash it out if you need it but most people just leave it there to watch their next movie. Simple explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=map6EIP41bY
If I mark the box “manual sell-back” am I allowed to watch the movie multiple times within a 24 hour period before selling it back? And still only being charged for 1 day rental?
Yes. That’s correct.
I’m looking to sign up. Is VidAngel only streaming or can I download a movie, watch, then sell back? My bad internet at home is the reason for my question.
Thanks for this service! I hope I can take advantage.
Offline viewing is not yet available but it is something we’d like to add in the future.
So I don’t know where to ask this but is there a language filter for terms of diety?
It’s called Blasphemy under the default filters: https://www.vidangel.com/filters
Probably a dumb question but is there a way to download the video so I can watch something on a plane or does it need to stream in order to work?
Currently you have to stream it. We plan to make an offline option in the future.
I have a Samsung smart tv. Can I download the app on this tv?
Hi we’re working on an app for smart TVs! Here are the devices we currently support: https://www.vidangel.com/support
Greetings! I believe I may have made a boo-boo in paying ahead for credit. I noticed you could get $25 worth of credit for $24 and thought “Why not”?! This, BEFORE reading credit purchased cannot ever be cashed out. How would you ever use that credit up? Would you HAVE to purchase a movie or television show or just be a VidAngel member forever? I hope to be a forever member anyway but “time snd unforseen occurance befall us all”! That being said, the movie moguls COULD find a way to close you down (even temporarily) what happens with my foolish purchase then? Thinking about it (now?) I’m wondering why there is only the $25 credit option when you levy only a $20 per movie purchase price! I do not see how I could ever use up the $25 worth of credit I bought without outright buying something. Goodness!
contact us at support@vidangel.com 🙂
Is offline playback available yet? If so, how? Thanks!
Not yet! Hope to be able to do that in the future
My credit amount keeps rising every single time I get a movie, I don’t ever see it going down. I feel like I’m getting charged the full amount of the movie and my credit isn’t purchasing the movie. I use my Roku device to stream Vidangel, I’m sure if there is a different method of using my built up credit.
Hi Matthew! Have you been selling back your movies before purchasing the next one? If so, contact us at support@vidangel.com and we can help you out!
