10 TV Series You Won’t Be Able To Stop Watching

You know the TV series you love and must get all your friends to watch? Then the series finale comes and goes, and you’re left with three options: find something new, rewatch it, or read a book. We’re not librarians, so we can’t offer assistance on the third, but we CAN offer some recommendations for the first two. Although nothing quite beats the comfort of rewatching a favorite TV series accompanied by a solid snack, another beloved series has the potential to be a close second. We’ve gathered the cream of the crop, shows that are tried and true. Here’s a list of TV shows you won’t be able to stop watching. We’ll even let you know if it’s a slow burner or if it will grab your attention from the start. 

This can’t-stop-watching recommendation list is a melting pot of TV genres. The TV series could be adored by millions, but if it’s a romance and you couldn’t be bothered with watching a predictable love story, maybe you should opt for one of the Scream movies. It’s not a TV series, but it sure feels like it. They’re pumping out movies faster than Stranger Things can pump out new seasons. Those high schoolers will be 45 years old before they graduate from Hawkins High. 

#10 Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Synopsis: The story of how the young Queen Charlotte’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.

What You Should Know

Quick takeaway: Queen Charlotte in the first two seasons of Bridgerton is iconic, but just wait. You’ve seen nothing yet. If you’re a fan of the Bridgerton series, this is an absolute must-watch.

Fun facts about the real Queen Charlotte:

• Queen Charlotte and King George III were married on the same day they met. 
• They had 15 children together. 
• King George III, nicknamed Farmer George, had a deep interest in agriculture, physics, and astronomy.

What You Should Know

Quick takeaway: If the incredible cinematography and workplace thriller storyline don’t grab you, the gems from Ricken’s book, The You You Are, that inspires the innies’ rebellion certainly will. “What separates man from machine is that machines cannot think for themselves. Also, they are made of metal, whereas man is made of skin.” Really intriguing. Very Charlie Kaufman-esque. Probably not for everyone but definitely worth it if you like that sort of “weird social experiment” narrative. 

Fun fact: Creator and writer Dan Erickson reveals that, while “Severance” might be unsettling, it draws heavily from genuine life experiences. The concept began taking shape in his thoughts as he grappled with the monotony of a regular 9 to 5 job.

#8 Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

Synopsis: When CIA analyst Jack Ryan stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers his search for answers pulls him from the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, with a rising terrorist figurehead preparing for a massive attack against the US and her allies.

#7 Parks and Recreation

Synopsis: Hilarious ensemble comedy that follows Leslie Knope, a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana, and her tireless efforts to make her quintessentially American town just a little bit more fun.

What You Should Know

Significant amounts of profanity, blasphemy, and sexual innuendos heard throughout the TV series. 

#6 The Blacklist 

Synopsis: Raymond “Red” Reddington, one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, surrenders in person at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He claims that he and the FBI have the same interests: bringing down dangerous criminals and terrorists. In the last two decades, he’s made a list of criminals and terrorists that matter the most but the FBI cannot find because it does not know they exist. Reddington calls this “The Blacklist”. Reddington will co-operate, but insists that he will speak only to Elizabeth Keen, a rookie FBI profiler.

What You Should Know

Quick takeaway: If you’re into the “former government agent turned high-profile criminal, you can’t trust a single character in the entire series” type of genre, you’ll be hooked from the start. 

Inspiration for the show: The concept of “The Blacklist” is believed to be inspired by the real-life capture of Whitey Bulger, a notorious crime lord who eluded the FBI for over 16 years and was finally captured in 2011. After his capture, it was revealed that Bulger had been a former informant for the FBI, which parallels Raymond “Red” Reddington’s role with the agency in the show.

Fun fact: Many of the stories that Red tells throughout the series, especially the humorous or quirky anecdotes, are not entirely scripted. James Spader often ad-libs or improvises these stories, adding his personal touch and making the character more unpredictable and multi-dimensional.

#5 S.W.A.T.

Quick takeaway: If you enjoy action-packed police dramas with character-driven storylines, “S.W.A.T.” is right up your alley. However, if you’re looking for a didn’t-see-that-coming kind of series, it might not be your cup of tea.

Quick takeaway: Unique environment for a post-apocalyptic future with a very real physical strain of vertical floors that plays into the story. It’s a moderately-paced mystery that will leave you eager for the next season.

Fun fact: Graham Yost created the 10-episode post-apocalyptic drama, with direction by Morten Tyldum, based on Hugh Howey’s acclaimed novel series. Originally a standalone short story named “Wool” self-published by Howey in July 2011, it later evolved into a trilogy of novels. Set in a bleak future, the narrative revolves around the final 10,000 inhabitants of Earth, residing in an underground silo that stretches a mile deep. They strictly follow rules, thinking these safeguards protect them from the lethal external environment.

Quick takeaway: It’s basically the Sopranos, but for cowboys.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the TV series “Yellowstone” is shot on a real, working ranch in Montana? The stunning landscapes you see on the screen come from the Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby, Montana, which doubles as the fictional Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. The show’s authentic backdrop, with its breathtaking scenery, brings a genuine touch to the series. Moreover, the show has given local tourism a major lift, as enthusiasts travel to witness the iconic locales featured in the series firsthand.

It is known for its sharp, quick-witted exchanges which add a layer of sophistication and humor to the show. It’ll hook you from the start. You’ll watch it more than once.

Fun fact: Meghan Markle, who played the role of Rachel Zane, became internationally renowned not just for her acting, but for her real-life role as the Duchess of Sussex after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
