Want to know what’s better than a VidAngel app? A VidAngel app with a little fire. There’s no stopping, dropping, or rolling over here. We’re too busy filtering, enjoying, and watching our favorite movies with VidAngel directly on Fire TV. Need help getting started? We got you!

To get started with the VidAngel Fire TV app:

Subscribe to VidAngel.

Turn on your Fire TV.

Download the VidAngel app from the Amazon app store.

Enjoy entertainment your way on the big screen.

Don’t forget the snacks.

Need additional help? Visit our help center for step-by-step instructions to get the new Fire TV app downloaded.

Not sure what to watch next? Check out this list of the most popular shows that you can enjoy ON YOUR TV with our new app.

Having reservations? Here is what our customers have to say:

“We love the app! It is our go-to entertainment app, whether my husband and I want to watch an action series, my teen wants to see the latest superhero movie, or my two youngest want to view a cartoon! We each have a profile, tailored to our viewing level.” – Anne

“I have no idea how I lived without this service and have been a faithful user since I joined. I typically used to avoid shows with content was too much for me. Thanks to VidAngel, a whole new form of entertainment has been opened up to me and my family without having to worry about offensive language, nudity, or sexual content. It’s worth every penny!” – Adam

“The VidAngel app is an absolute game-changer for our family. So many shows have elements of nudity and profanity that are completely unnecessary and diminish the plot experience. VidAngel allows us to watch some of these great movies and shows without the nasty stuff. We love everything about this app.” – Zion

“Works great! Lots of great improvements. I usually can find something wrong with anything but in this case I can’t think of anything to complain about. The app is great.” – Awana

“My family has really enjoyed being able to watch movies together without worrying how much language will be in them. VidAngel is perfect for preteen/teens to be able to see movies we would otherwise have to skip. My husband and I have enjoyed shows like Jack Ryan without the language. I highly recommend VidAngel.” – Allen

Move over turkey, there’s a new bird in town for the holiday season. Birds of a feather can now filter Peacock together. How EXCITING. Peacock offers a vast collection of blockbuster films, timeless cult classics, and brand-new originals. So, grab your favorite snack and sit down to enjoy NBC’s iconic shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation. Or, buckle up for the hit series, Yellowstone. It’s the Sopranos meets Country. The good guys are just less bad than the bad guys and family loyalty means everything. Gather the family around to watch a piece of your childhood in the new movie,The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Whatever you’re looking for, Peacock has something for everyone.

Birds that flock together, filter together.

Does VidAngel filter the ads?

Long story short: No. We cannot provide filters for the ads.

Freevee is an ad-supported video-on-demand streaming service that generates revenue from advertising rather than paid subscriptions. As a fellow business, we respect streaming services providing content that can be filtered with VidAngel.

We get this all the time. Have you ever wondered who our taggers are and how we create filters for movies and shows? Does thinking about who takes on the task of identifying all the offensive content in your favorite series keep you up at night? Well, we at VidAngel obviously couldn’t exist without our taggers – those who create the filters. We thought we’d pull back the curtain a little and introduce you to some of the people that make the magic happen.

Belinda Galvin manages our large team of taggers. She is our Eleven, our Spock, our award-winning supporting actor who holds it all together. We wanted to give you just a glimpse of her world among the filters:

How did you become involved with VidAngel?

“I was looking for work at home and found VidAngel on Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk).”

Do you still do any tagging?

“I started out as a tagger nine years ago. I still can tag and publish and never ask my workers to do anything that I cannot do myself.”

How do you choose your taggers?

“I look for people who like to work and will watch content so our customers don’t have to. They also need to fit within our Tagging community by way of being active and communicating with the other workers. … I have met a variety of people and our team has gotten to know each other and are pretty close.”

With that, we also asked questions to some of those hard-working and willing taggers. Introducing: Ashley Kelsey, Sara Beers, Joseph Drake, Kyndra Sawls, and Annette Lambert.

Why did you become a tagger?

Kyndra: “I became a tagger because I enjoy watching movies. And how amazing that I get to do that and get paid to work! I also enjoyed the fact that we are a section of the company that is not just in one state, it is a fun way to interact with people while enjoying your job.”

Ashley: “I originally became a tagger because I was staying home with my children, but needed some me time and wanted to earn a little extra money. I continue to work as a tagger because I truly enjoy the position.”

Sara: “I became a tagger because I was a single mom and I needed something I could do from home. I have a special needs child that needs me and a regular 9-5 wasn’t a good fit. But after I got started I fell in love with the concept and the company and everyone I work with. I feel like we offer a truly valuable service and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Joseph: “My daughter was doing competitive gymnastics and the day job wasn’t cutting it. I needed a part-time job… and I ended up finding a part-time job and a home here.”

Annette: “I became a tagger to expand my knowledge and get experience in a new position.”

What is your favorite movie or TV show of all time?

Belinda: “Schitt’s Creek.”

Ashley: “My favorite movie is Grease (the original). My favorite TV show is currently Yellowstone, although I am a big sucker for Grey’s Anatomy.”

Sara: “That’s a hard one. Lol. My favorite movie is probably The Lost Boys. My favorite TV show is probably Dexter.”

Joseph: “Favorite movie is The Dark Knight. Favorite TV shows are the original Star Trek and South Park.”

Kyndra: “My favorite show is Schitt’s Creek. My favorite movie is The Other Woman.”

Annette: “My favorite TV show is CSI.”

What was your favorite show to tag? Why?

Ashley: “Oh, that’s a tough one! There have been some really good shows. Through the years I can remember getting really excited to tag an episode of Psych and Dead to Me. I enjoyed them both because they were new shows, to me, that I never would have watched if not for this position.”

Sara: “Hmmmm. There have been a lot that I liked working on. But I think I would have to say Dexter or Outlander. I like those shows and that makes it more fun.”

Joseph: “Psych and Cobra Kai were fun. The Chosen is amazing too.”

Kyndra: “My favorite title to tag was Dexter. I loved it because it had many tags, making it seem like the work was being done faster. It was also full of a variety of tags, which is enjoyable to me. Also, Dexter is one of my favorite shows, so it was so fun to tag it.”

What was your least favorite show to tag? Why?

Ashley: “I don’t prefer to watch any scary movies/shows or anything with a lot of gore, because of that I would have to say Ash vs Evil Dead has been my least favorite show to tag.”

Sara: “Definitely Selling Sunset. I don’t mind working on it at all. I just personally don’t care for reality shows.”

Kyndra: “My least favorite title to tag was Happy and anything scary. Happy was just not my favorite because it was not a show I would normally watch, and some of the tags were things I have never seen before. But learning is growing, which is good. I also am not a fan of scary shows so those always are hard for me to watch since I don’t watch them in my free time.”

Annette: “My least favorite tags would be sexual references because it’s hard to word some of the descriptions without being crude.”

Any fun stories about your tagging experience?

Ashley: “As I am sure any tagger will tell you, working for VidAngel has caused me to ‘tag’ every movie or TV show my family and I watch while I am not working. This has caused some fun moments in my house, especially with my youngest. Any time something inappropriate comes on the TV my son will yell out, ‘Oh, that’s a tag!’ We all get a good laugh out of this.”

Sara: “There are so many crazy things I have come across while tagging. But it always makes me laugh when I tag something and it changes the dialog in a way that completely changes the tone of the scene.”

Joseph: “It’s always fun when we joke about all the depravity we have to google and how we hope our google search history never gets out.”

Annette: “There is always something new that comes up with this job. Every time you think you know what you’re doing, a show comes out with new crazy situations.”

So, how much hope do you have in humanity?

Belinda: “I have a lot of hope in humanity and hope what we do can help bring families together with stronger values.”

Ashley: “So much! I like to believe that people are genuinely good. I see random acts of kindness daily and take every opportunity to give my kids the experience of giving back.”

Sara: “I have plenty of hope for humanity. I think humans on a whole are good. Definitely more good than bad.”

Joseph: “About 50/50… hard to stay positive sometimes.”

Kyndra: “I have hope in humanity, but I think there are so many different opinions about a lot of things and that just causes a lot of contention and hardship. I do believe that if we stay happy and positive it will help everyone in the long run.”

Annette: “I have a lot of hope in humanity. Even with all the bad things that happen, there is so much good and so many good people in the world.”

There you have it! What else would you like to ask the VidAngel employees that make filters a reality?

Our VidAngel engineers are the backbone of the company! They are the ones behind the scenes making VidAngel better every day. They create and update our apps, improve the quality of our product, design new features, and iron out any bugs.

Learn more about some of our talented engineers: Jarom, Jason, Ian, Derrick, and Blake. And get answers to the burning question all our customers have: what are VidAngel engineers currently working on?

How did you hear about VidAngel?

Jarom: I was working as a professor at BYU, and VidAngel’s founder emailed me out of the blue (based on a blog post I’d written) and asked if I’d be interested in doing some programming work on an idea he had for filtering YouTube… the rest is history.

Jason: From a family member of the original founders who let me know they were looking for engineers.

Ian: I worked under Jarom (with Derrick, actually) in the Digital Humanities department at Brigham Young University. Among many other projects, one thing we did was build software that filtered content for BYU’s International Cinema program as well as for in-classroom use. Jarom eventually left to work for VidAngel. Sometime later he came across a relevant, fledgling Github project of mine and reached out to me about doing some consulting. That eventually turned into a full-time position.

Derrick: Ian told me.

Blake: I first heard about VidAngel from a friend, years ago, who wanted to use the service for a group date movie night. I thought it was neat that we could “tone down” the show so everyone would be comfortable watching. Later I became Team VidAngel during the lawsuit because the argument seemed reasonable and logical to me. Fast-forward a few more years and I became re-aware with The Chosen. Most recently, “they” called me to interview for an Engineering job and the rest was history!

How long have you been at VidAngel?

Jarom: Since 2013.

Jason: Since October of 2015

Ian: I believe the first work I did for VidAngel was back in early 2017. It hasn’t been constant by any means–for example, after Angel Studios budded off into its own company I, by default, ended up with them for a time.

Derrick: A little over a year.

Blake: Just over one year.

Why did you decide to take the job at VidAngel?

Jarom: I see VidAngel as having the ability to have a wide range of positive influences on the world. There is an enormous amount of acclaimed and impactful movies and shows, both old and new, that can be opened up to people who may otherwise want to avoid them because of certain content… I think we can have more people participating in the media landscape and it will benefit all of us culturally and creatively.

Jason: I really liked the people, the culture, and the focus of the company. I still do, by the way!

Ian: VidAngel was solving interesting problems and its employees were treated like human beings.

Derrick: Seemed like a great opportunity.

Blake: I was looking for an interesting engineering challenge with a good work/life balance. During the interview, I spoke with Bill (CEO) about how I empathize with the VidAngel mission of allowing users the choice of how they want to consume the media they own. As an avid moviegoer, I knew that I’d enjoy helping others watch the same movies I like, the way they want to see them. As a bonus, everyone I met seemed super cool and the office was right down the street.

Favorite and least favorite movie/show? Why?

Jarom: Favorite movie: Field of Dreams. Favorite TV show: Mad Men.
It’s hard to say least favorite, because I generally just completely avoid or stop watching if I really don’t like something. But most overrated movie: The Dark Knight. Most overrated tv show: The Walking Dead.

Jason: I like the early Disney classics (Mary Poppins is at the top), Saving Mr. Banks, Hook, Shawshank Redemption. Movies where the director has an inspiring message in mind in making the film. As a kid I loved Wishbone. Still love Winnie the Pooh.

I’ve never thought about [my least favorite]. Can’t say I know.

Ian: Favorite: The Swimmer (1968), starring Burt Lancaster, follows a man traveling from one neighborhood swimming pool to another on his way home. As the movie progresses, reality corrodes the facade of his relationships and standing in the community, and we see the protagonist as he truly is. It’s a dreamlike, somewhat bleak portrayal of the lies we tell ourselves and the impotent desire for constancy.

Least Favorite: A film following a silent horse from battlefield to barn and back again–War Horse (2011)–was an unnecessary addition to Hollywood’s oversaturated World War catalog. It might have had a different effect on me if I had ever in my life had an emotional bond with an animal or if I hadn’t already been desensitized to movie explosions and angry British men.

Derrick: Everything Everywhere All at Once, Barbarian, and Nope are recent movies I’ve enjoyed. I found them original and surprising.
I didn’t care for The Christmas Bunny. Not enough focus on the bunny.

Blake: My favorite shows are easy watching that make me smile with high rewatchability: The Office, Psych, Monk, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Community, Seinfeld, Silicon Valley, and Workaholics.

I tend to steer clear of shows that would give me nightmares. The last show I watched that kept me up at night was The Black Phone!

What’s your favorite thing you’ve done at VidAngel?

Jarom: I created the original filtering engine, and still wish I could spend more time working on the streaming pieces… getting better video quality, a wider variety of filters, better experience watching a movie with filters (so it feels more seamless but still preserves the narrative), etc.

Jason: I’ve been enjoying trying to tackle the TV clients.

Ian: Mostly internal stuff–stuff that has never seen the light of day. If it has to do with trying to make VidAngel more reliable or faster, I have fun working on it.

Derrick: Making the phone app more user-friendly.

Blake: I really enjoyed rewriting and optimizing the filter engine server. Since it’s our core product I had a sense of pride in making it as good as possible, making changes that were the same or better as the version that carried VA up to this point.

What projects are you currently working on?

Jarom: Adding more streaming services.

Jason: All of it… But I’m most excited about some changes we’re working on to bring out better film quality and a much faster, leaner service.

Ian: My main focuses right now are new features and platforms for TV and mobile apps.

Derrick: Working with app stores to get our app updated.

Blake: Real High Definition captures with consumer streaming devices.

Our VidAngel engineers work every single day to make your experience with VidAngel better. We are excited for our customers to see what we have in store this year!

Dear VidAngel Members,

You may have heard that Netflix is launching an ad-supported subscription plan. This follows Amazon’s recent launch of Freevee, which offers ad-supported content at no cost. The good news is that we have been hard at work integrating Freevee, which should be available in the coming weeks!

Customers have asked if we will offer filters for the ads. No, we will not. We respect the business models of streaming services, and ads are part of that business model. Our customers will see the same ads with VidAngel that they would have seen without it, and you will not be able to filter the content of the ads the same way you can filter the content of a show.

We are working hard to make VidAngel great for you and your family. Technology challenges in our industry can be complex. It pains us when we have glitches, even when they are not our fault. We work day and night so you can enjoy our service 24/7, and we pay attention to every request, complaint, and suggestion from our members. Your feedback helps us plan our road map for new features and product improvements. Thank you for taking the time to share.

To kick off November, we wanted to extend our gratitude to our employees with a spotlight on each department. A peek behind the VidAngel curtain. Of course, who better to start with than our CEO, Bill Aho. From our weekly customer-focused company-wide meetings to the dinners sent to us when we call in sick, he has fostered a culture, unlike anything we have seen before. He created a culture that takes it a step beyond treating each other like family. We treat each other like each of us has families of our own. With our cups full, we’re able to serve our customers tenfold.

Without further ado, we asked our customers: “If you could ask our CEO one question, what would it be?”

Q: Dare I dream, can Hulu be added to VidAngel? Have you tried to get Disney+ on VidAngel?

A: Of course. Let’s dream together. Really, we haven’t given up on Disney.

Q: I miss the old fire stick app. I don’t particularly like using my phone and casting. When is the fire stick app coming back?

A: It’s back! Here’s a link to set up the Fire TV app.

Q: When can I sign up for my individual services (Paramount+, STARZ, etc.) without going begging to Prime first?

A: It’s on the list if that’s any consolation. Quite a few services have been added lately, and it’s hard to keep up. The good news, we are just putting Amazon’s Freevee (free, ad-supported) to the test. And there are more to come.

Q: How are the operations of the company … day to day?

A: I’ve never seen a company like ours, with so many dedicated people that care about the customers and care for each other. Our customer support team kicks off our weekly company-wide meeting by going through customer concerns and pain points, and the entire company suggests ways we can improve.

Q: Are you hiring? And can I work from home?

A: As a matter of fact, we are looking to add another engineer. Here are the specs. If you fit, please get in touch.

Q: On a scale of 1-100, given all the obstacles Vid has faced from the beginning, how satisfied are you with the progress?

A: A wise man once said: “I’m pleased but not satisfied.” We’ve made a lot of improvements to the product. And we’ve added thousands of titles. But there is so much more we’re working on, which is really exciting.

Q: What are your default filters?

A: It’s just my wife and me, so maybe a little different than when our kids were young. I don’t like harsh language, so I regularly filter out the worst swears. And sex scenes always make me uncomfortable, so those are filtered. But I must admit, when watching alone, I don’t filter the violence. I like Viking shows.

Q: Favorite movie/show you wouldn’t be able to enjoy without VidAngel?

A: Let’s say Shaun of the Dead. I’m not normally a big fan of zombie movies, but this is such a fresh and funny take that I love it. And I wouldn’t watch it without VidAngel, mainly because of the language.

Q: What is your best business advice as a CEO?

A: Take great care of your team, and they will take great care of your customers.

One of our most frequently asked questions: Has anyone tried this? Does VidAngel actually work?

Yes, over a million people have used VidAngel.

And yes, we actually work.

How does VidAngel work?

VidAngel allows you to select what offensive language to mute and what inappropriate scenes to skip. With a click of a button, you can take out nudity, sex scenes, f-bombs, blasphemy, violence, and gore before you even press play. You can make an R-rated movie PG or take out one scene that would make you uncomfortable.

“Before VidAngel, I was the filter. I would watch any questionable movie or tv show (ALL seasons) and write down where the “bad” stuff was so we could then all watch it together. THIS is SO much easier … and very appreciated!!” – Karen

Check out our tips on how to enjoy VidAngel on your TV.

How do I know what scenes to take out before even watching the show?

For example, the category “sex/nudity/immodesty” is broken down into subsections: Sexually Suggestive, Nudity w/ Sex, Nudity w/o Sex, Sexual Assault, etc. Within each section, there is a vague description to know what kind of scene it is without spoiling the movie.

“As someone with PTSD and panic disorder, thank you for removing triggering content from movies. Just because I have past childhood trauma doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be able to enjoy media like everyone else.” – Shannen

Why do people use VidAngel?

Our customers use our services for a variety of reasons. There are quite a few shows that have a thought-provoking plot with great messages. What so many of our customers are finding, even the most uplifting show can still contain profanity, blasphemy, and nudity. TV series and movies critics deemed “family-friendly” have language that was nowhere to be seen during evening TV shows in the 80s. People no longer have to play the guessing game with VidAngel. Instead of fast-forwarding through parts you don’t want to see or getting blindsided by someone’s creative expression, people can relax and enjoy movie night.

“When I was a kid, we would watch movies that were broadcast on regular tv, and they had to filter them. I watched some of these movies unfiltered as an adult and was shocked at the content allowed in family movies, even from the 80s. Movie studios won’t allow edited versions to be sold. So filtering services are the only option if you want to watch a war movie without any language or unnecessary nudity. I don’t have broadcast tv anymore because of what they allow nowadays. We shouldn’t have to be restricted to G movies or cartoons if we don’t want language or sexual content in our entertainment.” – Chrystal

“Best $10 I have EVER spent!!! I can watch movies with my family now without worrying about what they might see. You can turn on as many or as few filters as you want for each show you watch. It’s genius as long as they keep the price affordable like it is, I will not ever cancel this membership.” – Vanessa
